Our Story
Top Floors is a family-centered flooring business with a rich history that all started with our president, Dan Clough. Our story unfolds when Dan, his wife Becky, and their daughter Michelle relocated to Delaware in pursuit of a new job opportunity. It was during this time that Becky's father, Woody Stiltner, who owned a carpet store, extended a helping hand by teaching Dan the art of flooring installation.
Under Woody's expert guidance, Dan honed his skills in installing carpet and sheet vinyl flooring. Michelle fondly remembers her visits to her "Poppop Woody's" bright and bustling carpet shop, where she even got her start in the family business by helping clean up carpet trimmings alongside her father.
After a few years of dedicated work with Woody, the Clough family decided to return to the South to be closer to their extended family. Dan continued his journey by working as a flooring installer for a company in Lawrenceville, where he quickly became their top installer. Dan's secret to success was simple: he approached every job as if it were his own business, ensuring meticulous preparation, and keeping his equipment and van in top-notch condition.
As the years passed, Dan realized that installing floors wasn't a sustainable long-term endeavor due to the physical demands it placed on him. Working on one's knees all day, often in non-air-conditioned spaces in the Deep South, took its toll. In August 2004, with unwavering determination, Dan and Becky took the bold step of establishing Top Floors. Originally, Dan hoped to sell flooring and continue installing it himself, but he quickly realized that selling floors and running a business required his full attention.
Becky joined the business full-time in 2007, bringing her background in medical billing to the table. Her expertise in managing the company's finances allowed Dan to focus on the business's growth, sales, and operations. In 2012, Top Floors became a proud member of the Carpet One cooperative, which further expanded the business's capabilities. Shortly thereafter, Keith and Michelle Ali, the Cloughs' daughter, became an integral part of the business, continuing the family tradition. Today, even Dan and Becky's granddaughters visit the bright carpet shop, creating new memories and carrying forward the family legacy.
